What is Belief Mapping?

Our beliefs influence the way we understand ourselves, other people, and the world around us. Many of those beliefs develop naturally through our experiences, family, culture, faith, education, and the conclusions we draw along the way.

Most of the time, we don’t consciously think about those underlying beliefs. They simply become part of the framework through which we experience life.

Belief Mapping is a way of exploring that framework.

Rather than beginning with the assumption that something is wrong, missing, or limiting, Belief Mapping starts with the positive beliefs and understandings that are supportive for us. We can then use testing to determine which statements may need further exploration.

How Does Belief Mapping Work?

A Belief Mapping session begins with a concern or area you would like to explore. The concern may be physical, emotional, mental, relational, spiritual, situational, or something else entirely. There is no predetermined list of issues that Belief Mapping is limited to. The assessment determines whether beliefs may be relevant to the concern and, if so, which areas are worth exploring.

From there, I use a structured collection of positive statements and allow the assessment to identify which beliefs are in alignment and which may warrant further exploration.

For example, rather than starting with:

“What limiting belief is preventing this person from succeeding?”

we might explore a positive statement such as:

“I am capable of succeeding.”

If that belief is not in alignment, we have something specific to explore.

This approach changes the question from “What’s wrong?” to “What isn’t fully aligned yet?”

Once an area of misalignment is identified, additional testing can help determine what may be contributing to it and what needs to be addressed.

Why Focus on Positive Beliefs?

There is a tendency in personal-development work to spend a great deal of time looking for what is wrong: limiting beliefs, negative thoughts, blocks, resistance, missing pieces, and problems that need to be fixed.

I prefer to approach belief work from a different direction.

We already have many healthy, constructive beliefs available to us. Belief Mapping starts by identifying those positive foundations and seeing where they are already in place.

The goal isn’t to convince you to think differently or replace your beliefs with someone else’s. It is to identify areas where what you consciously believe and what your deeper responses indicate may not yet be in alignment.

What Can Belief Mapping Explore?

Belief Mapping can be used to explore many different areas, including:

  • Physical concerns or discomfort
  • Emotional or mental concerns
  • Relationships and interpersonal experiences
  • Stress and responses to stressful situations
  • Recurring patterns or behaviors
  • Confidence, self-worth, and personal identity
  • Safety, trust, and security
  • Work, finances, and receiving
  • Motivation, follow-through, and change
  • Past experiences and their continuing influence
  • Personal, family, or cultural beliefs
  • Faith and spiritual beliefs
  • Goals, direction, and life circumstances
  • And many other areas where beliefs may play a role

The specific statements explored are determined by the area being addressed and by what the assessment indicates is relevant.

A Map, Not a Diagnosis

Belief Mapping isn’t about labeling a person or deciding that they have a particular problem. A statement that isn’t in alignment isn’t a judgment about whether someone should believe it.

It simply gives us somewhere to look.

The map helps identify the territory. The assessment helps determine where to explore.

And, as with my other work, I don’t have to decide ahead of time what the answer should be. I can allow the assessment to guide the process and see what is relevant for that individual.

Assisting Clients World-Wide

The Tinker’s Moon has worked with clients from many different locations and backgrounds, and I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world.

One of the things I value most about this work is getting to know the person behind the session. Every person brings their own experiences, circumstances, questions, and perspective, and I don’t believe in approaching people as though there is one answer or one approach that fits everyone.

My work is offered with respect for each person’s individual circumstances, beliefs, experiences, and pace. Whether you are coming with a specific concern, exploring a long-standing pattern, or simply curious about what a session might reveal, you are welcome here.

I encourage you to take some time to explore the website and learn more about me and the way I work. If you have questions that aren’t answered here, you’re welcome to contact me before ordering. There is no pressure to decide that a session is right for you simply because you’ve reached out.

My hope is that you will have enough information to make a decision that feels right for you.
