Vows, Oaths, and Contracts
Could a vow, oath, or promise from an ancestor or a past life be interfering with your current life? Absolutely!
If you have a problem, behavior, pattern, or habitual state of mind and/or being that you cannot change after repeated work, it may be related to a past life or ancestral promise, oath, or agreement.
Vows, oaths, and contracts from this life or ancestral lives can be very powerful and create obstacles in your life. They are always tied to a subconscious promise you made in an emotionally reactive moment.
- A vow is a solemn promise, pledge, or personal commitment person binds himself or herself to an act, service, or condition (also taken by monks, nuns, and religious people).
- An oath is a solemn appeal to a deity, or to some revered person or thing, to witness one’s determination to speak the truth.
- A contract is a bond or agreement created with yourself or another soul. They are non-physical agreements that can contribute to karmic patterns and energy cords with others. We often make and have soul agreements with others before we enter the physical world.
Most folks use the above terms interchangeably as they are all similar in the way they affect our lives. A few of the promises, vows, and oaths that may affect our lives are:
- Vow of Poverty – Interferes with your abundance and receptivity
- Vow of Celibacy or Chastity – Affects your relationships
- Vow to God – this may cause you to stay single or unable to keep a relationship because you are married to God at a soul level
- Vow of ill health – may lead to loneliness and isolation
- Healer’s Oath – There are several types depending on the time, culture, and character of the healer. Some examples would be: never profit financially from healing, never use your healing skills for yourself or your family, and only to heal certain groups of people (anyone else was worthless or unworthy).
- Hospitaller’s Vow – The Knights Templar took the Hospitaller’s oath to “always show hospitality to the sick.” On a physical level, it means that we play host to various things: parasites, viruses, bacteria, candida, etc. On an energetic level, we attract entities.
- Oath to Protect the Innocent – The Knights Templar also took this oath which means you may feel the need to protect people, work for a cause or charity, etc. This is all well and good, but what will it cost you and your health?
- Vow of Secrecy – often taken in past centuries as a way to protect the members of a group (ex: Freemasons, Christians, pagan societies, etc). It may prevent you from sharing vital information today out of fear of retribution.
- Monastic Vow or Vow of Cloistering – a promise to be kept separate from the world and can manifest in agoraphobia and reluctance to be in the world
- Vow of Self-punishment – these stem from self-flagellation which was common for priests/clergy in past centuries and can manifest in self-harm (cutting, eating disorders, addiction, etc).
- Marriage Vows – we may have a current marriage vow even if we’re divorced as part of the ceremony is “till death do us part”
- Enlistment oath – Military oath taken by our ancestors or by us in past lives – someone went to war and died on the battlefield, and that oath to fight is still operating
- Vow of Silence – this is a commitment to keep silent and was often taken by those entering religious orders. It can affect your ability to speak freely and openly and to be your authentic self
There are more, but the important part is to know that they may be creating energetic imbalances for us. If you suspect this might be the case, let’s schedule a Name Alignment or Ancestral Clearing session. These sessions are also listed in my Etsy store.
