How Much Emotional Baggage Are You Carrying?
Everyone experiences unpleasant stressors in life. These can be a result of family issues, workplace stress, problematic relationships, illness, and more. Emotions arise as a result of these stressors and can have immense effects on mental and physical health. This so-called “emotional baggage” must be evaluated and analyzed to maintain feelings, emotions, behaviors, and overall health.
Emotional baggage is often detrimental to emotional health. The amount of baggage carried by an individual is often underestimated in its level of influence; therefore, the necessary coping skills and strategies are not employed in response to these stressors. Acceptance is often alternatively employed to passively accept the existence of baggage. This complacency compromises the integrity of emotional well-being and discourages the resolution of baggage.
Emotional baggage is comprised of a variety of stressors and experiences. Baggage is carried by the mind’s memories and is often repressed for long periods of time, maybe even years. The naive nature of childhood perception is more troubling to adults as they associate childhood coping strategies with trauma. Therefore, it is often difficult for childhood trauma to be resolved and it remains a significant portion of carried baggage.
One of the most emotionally debilitating components of baggage is the prevalence of self-doubt and negative self-beliefs. The thoughts diminish self-esteem and are often validated by individuals as being legitimate and true. Self-doubt promotes failure and discourages achievement by causing an individual to question their abilities. This form of baggage, however, is avoidable. Energy healing techniques exist that can provide support to and encourage individuals to release themselves from self-doubt.
Although the exact amount of baggage an individual carries is difficult to quantify, it is evident that this baggage exists, and it can be very burdensome. Every individual possesses various emotions and experiences that are contained in memories. Rejection, betrayal, hardship, failure, shame and guilt, loss of self-esteem, and sadness add to the weight of the baggage and affect the individual. The buildup of baggage over time can negatively impact physical health and deteriorate emotional wellness.
The amount of emotional baggage carried by an individual can be decreased by a variety of energy clearing/balancing techniques which help to rid oneself of negative, non-beneficial emotions and feelings. Stress management is also essential to diminish the amount of emotional baggage in existence and it includes exercise, restful sleep, good eating habits, and exposure to sunlight or Vitamin D supplements.
Carrying a lot of baggage can seem unbearable at times. Individuals have baggage from past experiences that remain in their memory. New stressors can create even more baggage when an individual inappropriately responds to the stress. One cannot be sure exactly how much baggage they have, but too much baggage can be problematic and compromise an individual’s physical and emotional health. It is necessary to determine the source of any baggage and resolve the impact it has on an individual.
