Cultural Programming or Dreams

There was a time not that long ago when most folks were entrepreneurs.  Many were farmers as we lived in an agrarian society.  Communities were small and shops locally owned.  Children went into the family business or learned a different skill/trade and went into business for themselves.  People, in general, were doing what they felt called to do.

Then industrialization came along, and people were needed for the factories.  Students were taught from an early age to sit and follow directions.  Creative thought and expression were often thwarted and those who didn’t fit the prescribed mold were admonished.  There wasn’t much room for individual creativity or dreams.

Corporations grew and needed educated employees in addition to skilled employees.  That meant more people needed to go to college.  Students were told high school wasn’t enough and that continuing their education was the only way to success.  Finish school and get a good job … working FOR someone else.

More cultural programming and conditioning takes us away from dreams and pins all our hopes on getting just the right job and moving up the corporate ladder.  We’re taught to follow all the rules, to fit in, and just do what we’re told.  Jobs aren’t sought for a sense of satisfaction; they are typically pursued based on whether enough money can be made and if there is room for advancement.

Pretty much gone are the days when honing one’s skills and a job well done provided a sense of self-worth and accomplishment.  Hours and hours are spent every week on the work treadmill making money for others.  That’s not to say that many aren’t very good at the work they do; but how many enjoy it anymore?  How many are filled with a sense of satisfaction from the work they do.

As I listen to people talk and share in forums on line, their hearts are craving something more.  Yet cultural conditioning has robbed most of the ability to even dream about anything different than what they know or are experiencing.  Their futures have been laid out for them and their beliefs keep them on the treadmill.

Ahhh … beliefs!  Thought are things and have energy and those beliefs keep us in line.  What happens if we remove limiting beliefs?  What happens if we dare to dream?  What happens if we find our true nature again?

Our DNA is encoded with the skills, memories, and emotions of our ancestors.  (Not sure about this?  Check the links at the end of the post.)  Do you love woodworking and recently learned of a grandparent or great-grandparent who was a master carpenter or cabinet maker?  Or maybe you have a fascination with shipbuilding, baking, or working with fabric.  Have you researched your ancestors?

Do you remember what called to you when you were younger?  That’s likely what makes your heart sing.  Are you doing it?  If not, would you like to?  Maybe it’s time to change the cultural beliefs that keep us trudging the prescribed path and open new doors for ourselves.

Me?  I love what I do working with people (and their animals) all over the world.  But I also enjoy agriculture, carpentry, baking, sewing, music, writing and quite a few other things.  My parents and grandparents were very talented in those areas … so maybe I come by them naturally 😊  And sometimes they all clamor for my attention … how do I pick?

How do you pick?  Have you thought about what you WANT to do versus what you’ve been EXPECTED to do?  Maybe they are one in the same.  But maybe they’re not and exploring your heart’s desire is a door you should open.

If you think old programming is holding you back, I’d be glad to help you clear any energy imbalances and create new pathways for your thoughts.  The new energies might just create a super highway to speed you along toward a new (or old) dream.
